She was so admirable , and her approach to her history assignment was downright inspired.
There were the jocks, the nerd, the cowboy… There was even a passionate Italian fling on holiday and a low-key thing with a TV star! You know those kinds of guys we dream of dating because I will admit to wanting to ride on the back of a Vespa?
It's Not Me, It's You
Avery dated them…but they were never right for her. The ship on these seas was pretty predictable, and I could see it coming from the get-go. That did not, in any way, reduce my enjoyment of the book. If anything, I think I loved it more. The way the feelings were slowly revealed was adorable! And then the big gesture at the end? Overall, this was a very fun, very swoony, very quick read that helped me get over my ire at the way a certain other series ended!
Get this book for a light weekend read if you need something smart and funny and adorable! Was this ever CUTE! Avery was a great character. She also gets extra points in my book for liking Roman Holiday which is one of my Wow! She also gets extra points in my book for liking Roman Holiday which is one of my favorite movies of all time. She really did grow as a character as she analyzed her past relationships. Hutch reminded me of a certain someone. I loved him as a character. His sense of humor was great too.

Some of the ex boyfriends were sillier than the others but I liked that Avery learned something from almost all of them. Overall I really enjoyed this. You know what this book was? Cute, cute, and more cute. It was silly, fun, adorable, and happy. It was pages of lightness. The Format: This book was written in an interview format, so basically the book was Avery's final history paper. I love reading books in unique formats. It's fun to mix it up. Also, I loved all the sarcastic comments and Editor's Notes that came along with each person's perspective.
The Cuteness: So Avery is a mega-popular girl who gets dumped right before prom. To me, You know what this book was? To me, that's really no big deal, but I to someone like Avery-- it's something she's been looking forward to for years. To her this is supposed to be one of the most important memory moments of her life.

Even though we have differing views on what is an "important moment", I liked Avery. She wasn't the stereotypical mean girl or the dumb blonde. She was smart and nice. She wasn't conceited, she cared about people, and she had a kick-ass BFF. Coco was one of my favorite parts of this book. She quoted JFK constantly and always had her bestie's back.
I loved that this was a positive book. It was Avery looking back on her failed love-life and she didn't have a bad thing to say about any of the dudes. The 2 Things: As much as I loved reading this super-fun book, there were 2 things I would change. I could see it coming by page The other thing is that I was wishing for less G-ratedness.
When I read YA, I expect a little bit of edginess. Not over-the-top stuff, but this girl had 15 or so boyfriends and everything there was nicey-nice, nothingness. She had a few serious boyfriends, and I would expect that some of those would progress beyond kissing not that I need every detail, but teens are doing more than kissing , and I would expect some of those to have deeper issues than-- he said I love you and I didn't say it back.
I could never hate on this book though. It would be like kicking a puppy. It's adorable and fun-- totally do-able for Middle Grade readers, but also fun entertainment for older teens. Avery was popular and NOT a mean girl-- crazy isn't it?? I loved the format and the characters. Lightness is needed, but I was wishing for a tad more edge or drama-- or maybe just a little less sweetness. It's definitely a book that will give you a toothache. This was absolutely hilarious and adorable! I was hesitant with the formatting of this one at first but once I got into a groove, I flew through it. I loved all the pop culture references Mean Girls within the first 5 pages! I wasn't expecting to love Avery as much as I did, what a fantastic main character. Was this perfect? No, but it was so unexpectedly funny and just what I didn't know I needed. Such a quick and cute read! This review was originally posted on Latte Nights Reviews. As the synopsis states, this story is about a girl who has never been single. She's always dating someone, but prom is near and she just got dumped.
A class assignment is handed out and Avery decides to do it on her past relationships and why they didn't work out. Avery's story was slightly comedic and at times, fun. I enjoyed her story and all of her thoughts and footnotes added to the research. I also loved the format of the This review was originally posted on Latte Nights Reviews.
